Mark Sudduth
Cleveland, OH

2019 Award of Distinction - Glass

Mark J. Sudduth is a 1983 Graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art where he majored in Glass with a minor in Drawing.  Since graduation, Mark has been operating a private studio in Cleveland where he produces his award-winning hand blown and sculptural glass.

Describing his work, Mark comments “There is a quality in glass that is generated by the glass itself.  Those qualities are elusive, intriguing and seductive.  I make them as much a part of my work as possible.  I work with thick glass because it exhibits qualities that interest me—depth, transparency, reflection, and refraction.  My attention to strong form is a very important factor in my work.

Sudduth exhibits nationally and is rewarded for his unique style and execution with many awards. His work is in the permanent collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art and numerous private collections.

In the following video, Mark explains his process in creating large glass sculpture and the details that showcase the glass medium.
