Featured award winning artist, Amanda Outcalt, is a mixed media artist who focuses on drawing, etching, intaglio and printmaking.
Intaglio is the family of printmaking techniques in which the image is incised into a surface and the incised line or sunken area holds the ink. It is the direct opposite of a relief print. This technique allows Amanda to add a rich visual depth to her art.
Amanda considers herself a storyteller and image-maker instead of a printmaker. Instead of human figures, she often uses animals in her art to convey human emotions. She feels that it works because of the symbolism we attribute to certain animals.
