CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL 2025 WINTER PARK SIDEWALK ART FESTIVAL AWARD WINNERS!
JUDGES STATEMENT
“It was our pleasure and honor, to be included as jurors for the 2025 Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival. We were truly awed and inspired by the incredibly diverse works from all of the contributing artists.
The human impulse to create art is universal, and the arts have been a way to communicate beliefs, and express ideas about the human experience, throughout all stages of civilization, and in every region of the world. For all of these artists, this is their love language, their creativity and expression. They will leave behind their mark, and this artwork will document who they are at this moment in time. As we viewed the works, and read the artist’s statements, we felt privileged to have a window into each artists’ creative process and meet you all.
Congratulations and thank you, to all of the artists who have submitted work. The submissions showcased originality, artistic voice, intention and technical mastery. The selection process was challenging, and while we were elated to see many of the preferred works move onto the final round, there are inevitably pieces that didn’t make it through. As exhibiting artists ourselves, we have also been in this very same position numerous times. We encourage you to continue on your development and exploration of artistic expression, and share your work as much as you can!
The extravagant welcome we received from the Board and volunteers of the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival was a testament to the care bestowed on every artist that participates in this prestigious festival. We as artists serving as judges are grateful to see this level of care, trust and respect brought into the artists community.”

ABOUT BEST IN SHOW ARTIST, HERNAN RODRIGUEZ
Born in Güines, Havana, Cuba in 1982, Hernan Rodriguez is a self-taught contemporary landscape painter with humble beginnings in the countryside. Surrounded by unique and exotic landscapes, Rodriguez discovered early on that painting would be his lifelong passion. Using the landscape of his hometown in Cuba as the prime motive and model behind his works, the artist garnered the attention of Raul Perdomo, a renowned Cuban landscape painter, and eventually became his apprentice. He later traveled to Miami, where he currently lives and works.
In this new city and surroundings, Rodriguez’s landscapes have become memories of his mother country. Showing impressive maturity and pictorial skill, his style demonstrates a simple approach to nature as the artist invites us into his world for a constant reflection between man and earth. Through an epic representation of the land and with an intense pigmentation, The artist has developed his own unique style of landscape, one within the style of traditional realism.
“Taking the Backroad” by Wonda Granville is a remarkable piece that beautifully encapsulates the spirit of philanthropy through its artistic expression. The blend of realism and abstraction in the artwork seems to evoke a strong sense of history and emotion, resonating with the themes of love and humanity.
The Heart of Florida United Way’s film “Know Your Place” appears to have been a significant influence on the selection of this piece for the “Art of Philanthropy Award.” The film’s focus on personal stories of racism, segregation, and bias in Central Florida’s history aligns with the artwork’s reflection on the state’s past and the ongoing journey towards a better future.
Wonda Granville’s journey from being an emerging artist at the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival, to being honored with this award, is truly inspiring. Her story is a testament to the impact that art can have in both representing and fostering a love for humanity. “Taking the Backroads” will be featured in The Edyth, the headquarters of the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation. The Edyth, with its inspiring architectural designs and spaces for community gathering, will provide an excellent backdrop for Granville’s work, allowing visitors to appreciate the art in a space dedicated to the love of mankind. It’s a beautiful synergy between the artwork and the venue, both of which celebrate the rich history and philanthropic spirit of Winter Park, Florida.

- Quintessential American experience, if you have been in the United States you have been in the suburbs
- This neighborhood depicted from a bird’s eye view shows both the connected and disconnected nature in which we live in modern communities
- There is something dreamy, ethereal, spooky and sad about these depicted individual properties that lack any human presence that alarmingly present this dystopian view.

Great White Egret

- Shore birds being integral to coastal spaces particularly Central Florida
- Birds being complete the food web that supports swamps and coastal environments
- We liked how the Egret was depicted in portrait format which gave a lot of personality, giving them identity distinguishing them from their natural environment
